Two Wheels Two Generations
Two Wheels, Two Generations: The Strider Legacy is Rolling!
We often talk about the Strider journey as a major life milestone — that moment a child conquers balance and finds their confidence. But we always wondered: When would our first generation of Strider riders grow up and put their own kids on a Strider?
That day is here! As our founder, Ryan McFarland, put it: "To actually see a young mom come in with a well-loved Strider and her little boy in hand and wanting him to ride her same bike... that just was awesome."
From Driveway Strides to Family Treasure
Meet Michaela, one of those original Strider kids. Now a super-cool mom, she’s passing on the two-wheeled passion to the next generation, right on the bike she grew up on.
"I grew up riding Striders and now I'm teaching my son how to ride Striders as well on the same Strider I grew up on," she shared.
We immediately recognized the significance, as Ryan noted: "You saw that old bike that had, you could tell, been ridden and loved and saved for this moment."
Michaela realized her son was ready to ride, and the only bike they needed was already in the garage. When she dug the old bike out, the magic was instant! "He took off right away. And for him to be able to ride the same bike I did is kind of insane. We held on to it for the reason of letting our kids ride them, but for it to be so soon and so for real, it was kind of mind-blowing."
The Confidence That Stays in the Family
What begins as a bike quickly becomes a cherished memento of early childhood independence. Michaela’s son is proving the Strider philosophy works, and they’re creating epic memories together now.
"Oh, we take it everywhere we can. He lives with it. He sleeps with it pretty much, takes it everywhere possible," Michaela laughed. Seeing how much her son loved her original Strider, Michaela decided to get him a new one. She even added a fun challenge: "Occasionally we have races, so we both ride them." (Note: She did try to stop him when he tried to ride it down the stairs!)
That simple act — two generations racing on Strider bikes — is the ultimate validation of our mission. The confidence a child gains from those first few strides is a feeling worth preserving and passing down!
The Future is Bright (and Full of Striding)
This isn't just one amazing family story; it's the beginning of a Strider tidal wave!
"The next decade is going to be filled with second-generation riders," said Ryan. "We have led the charge on this transition of how kids learn to ride... and it's going to be a super exciting decade."
We’re happy to be at the forefront of this movement. The Strider legacy is built on the confidence of every child, and we can’t wait to see what the next generation conquers!
