Pneumatic Tires Give Older Riders An All-Terrain Wheel For All Seasons

Rapid City, SD (November 27, 2013) — Strider Sports Intl., Inc., the world’s premier manufacturer and marketer of children’s no-pedal balance bikes, is releasing an all-new wheel just in time for the holidays. The Heavy-Duty Wheel 12” set is designed to help young riders advance to the next stage of their bicycling progression.

Developed for kids aged 3 years old and up, the STRIDER™ Heavy-Duty Wheel Set is the perfect accessory for older riders who desire high traction more than an ultralight wheel, while still weighing in at a modest 1.8 pounds a piece.

The STRIDER Heavy Duty Wheels meet the same quality of the stock STRIDER wheel, but with new features innovated specifically for the older age group:

·         High-Traction, Inflatable Tires

o    Ideal for kids 3 & Over

·         All-Surface Tread

o    Perfect for the trails, the park, or the backyard

Revolutionary 16” Balance Bike Brings No-Pedal, Two-Wheel Fun To An Older Audience

Rapid City, SD (February 14, 2013) — Strider Sports International, the world’s premier manufacturer and marketer of children’s no-pedal balance bikes for toddlers learning to ride, is taking riding, racing and off-road fun to a whole new level and audience. Designed for kids aged 6-10 years old, the STRIDER™ SUPER 16 (SS-1) No-Pedal Balance Bike is the ultimate bike for those young riders who are ready to venture off trail or perform tricks and stunts that a heavier, more complicated pedal bike won’t allow.

The SUPER 16™ was designed and built based on the same, simple, lightweight, no-pedal design as the original Strider No-Pedal Balance Bike. It has a unique combination of features — the larger integrated footrests and ergonomic caliper handbrakes — making it the only bike of its size capable of pulling double duty as a teaching tool and stunt bike. It is the perfect starter bike for older kids who don’t yet know how to ride on two-wheels, while also designed to ride alongside skateboards, scooters and mountain bikes at skate parks and BMX tracks around the globe.

The SUPER 16 will offer many of the same advantages as the original STRIDER, but with new features innovated specifically for the older age group.

  • Simple, lightweight design (15 pounds/6 kg)

Perfect for kids 6-10 years old.

  • Patented STRIDER LAUNCHPAD Footrests

Uniquely integrated into frame and positioned for advanced riding skills.

  • Pneumatic “Dirt Jump” Tires

    Smooth riding with great traction.

  • Aluminum 16” Rims with Steel Hubs

    Strong and light.

  • Adjustable Seat & Handlebar

Keeps bike properly fit for a growing child.

  • Custom STRIDER Handlebar Pad

Adds extra protection and cool motocross styling.

  • Ergonomic Hand Lever & Caliper Brake

Develops hand-control coordination and fosters next level skills.

  • Choice of three vibrant colors

Choose from Blue, Green, Red, or Black.

  • Weight Limit 120 pounds (54 kg)

“We are so excited to introduce the SUPER 16,” said Ryan McFarland, CEO of Strider Sports International. “It’s a natural next step for both the company, and our family of STRIDER Riders. Life really is more exciting on two wheels… and with the STRIDER™ SUPER 16, we’re able to teach even more kids to ride.”

If you understand that formula you can quit reading now…If you looked at that formula and scratched your head like we did then keep reading!

There is an old maxim in the biking world; “A pound off the wheels = 2 pounds off the frame”. This is due in large part to the rotational weight of the tires and wheels and is especially important for the littlest riders. Weighing in at 1 lb 14.7 ounces for the pair, the Strider Ultralight wheels with durable EVA Poylmer tires on a Strider are the perfect combination of light weight, no hassle and long lasting.

When the EVA Polymer and plastic wheel is swapped out for metal rims and pneumatic tires the weight gain is almost double. This makes it harder to start and stop. The philosophy at Strider, since the beginning, has been to get the bike down to bare bones! Focus on balance and FUN! Older Strider riders will get used to the weight difference and will love having knobby tires, but for the littlest Strider rider EVA is the way to go!

What Fog? We didn't even notice! Off-roading on EVA!

Learning Every Day

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately concerning the different levels of skill for riders. When my daughter first got her Strider as an 18 month old she mostly spun the wheels with the bike laying on the ground. At the time I kept wondering if she would ever ride it.  When she did straddle the Strider most of her time was spent walking with her butt off the seat.

Nine months later I can barely believe how competent she has become.  She wants to ride ALL the time and when there are other Strider riders around she is cruising right along with them.  She’s still working on balancing with her feet off the ground for extended distances, but now I know that it is the next step in her Strider progression and it will happen soon enough!

Here is a great video that comes out of Germany where the generic term for balance bike is ‘laufrad’. We like this video because it shows an 18 month old Strider rider taking his first steps with his new Green Strider. Hopefully this video will give you an idea of the beginning process on a Strider.  Good luck and happy Striding!
