Breaking Barriers: How Strider Is Making Riding Accessible For Everyone

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the unique identities and contributions of individuals with limb differences. At Strider Bikes, this month resonates with our mission to get as many kids on bikes as we can. We’re not just saying that; we’re putting our mission into action through initiatives like our Adaptive Strider Program, which specifically helps kids who can ride a Strider 12 Sport/Pro balance bike discover the joy and freedom of two wheels.

For over 15 years, Strider has been the original balance bike truly built for kids’ size, igniting passion and building confidence in children as young as six months. Our mission extends far beyond typical riders. We're passionate about ensuring that the transformative experience of riding is available to everyone, regardless of ability or perceived limitations.

The Heart of Our Mission: Beyond the Typical Rider

We founded Strider with a simple goal: to get more kids active and on bikes. We're always listening to what parents and guardians need so we can create bikes that truly make a difference. While we’re known for helping toddlers master balance, our commitment to inclusivity shines with our Strider 20x and our dedication to providing opportunities for every rider.

This isn't just about selling bikes; it's about providing a gateway to confidence, independence, and social interaction for older children and young adults with special needs. We believe that the joy of movement, the thrill of exploration, and the sense of accomplishment are universal.

The Adaptive Strider Program: Custom Solutions for Little Ones

For children aged 1-4 years with height and limb differences, finding a bike that truly fits can be a significant hurdle. A correctly-fitting bike isn't just about comfort; it's crucial for a child's development, confidence, and overall joy in riding. Our Adaptive Strider Program is designed to overcome just that. When a new Strider 12 Sport/Pro balance bike is purchased, our skilled fabrication team, in partnership with RAM® Mounts, provides necessary bike modifications at no additional cost. This means:

Custom Fit

We craft one-of-a-kind Strider 12 Sport/Pro balance bikes, tailored to your child's specific measurements and needs, including unique grips or support structures.

Early Development

This program ensures that even the youngest riders with unique physical considerations can experience the foundational benefits of balance, coordination, and confidence building from the very start.

Limitless Potential

We give these kids a well-fitted bike to help more toddlers and preschoolers embark on their two-wheeled journey with comfort and control. These specialized adaptations open doors, allowing children to participate in activities with peers and discover newfound freedom.

The Strider 20x: A Bike Designed for Limitless Possibilities

Balance-First Design, Scaled Up

Just like our smaller bikes, the 20x starts in balance mode. This allows older riders to develop essential balance and coordination skills without the complexity of pedals, building a strong foundation.

Highly Adjustable

The 20x is incredibly versatile. Its highly adjustable frame can fit a wide range of user sizes, ages, and body types. This makes it a fantastic solution for individuals with physical considerations, as the bike can be customized to their specific needs.

Functional Mobility

For many young adults, the 20x isn't just for recreation; it's a tool for functional transportation. It empowers them to navigate their communities, explore new paths, and gain a new level of independence.

More Than Just Riding

Riding the 20x promotes physical activity, enhances emotional well-being, and fosters social interaction for young adults with developmental disorders and disabilities. These bikes provide something that typical offerings on the market for their age and size often don't, and help them return to an activity they might have thought was out of reach.

The stories we hear from parents and caregivers of 20x riders are incredibly powerful. They speak of breakthroughs, newfound freedom, and the sheer pride of seeing their child or young adult ride.

Celebrating Disability Pride Month and Beyond with Every Stride

As we celebrate Disability Pride Month, we honor the diversity of experiences and the incredible resilience within the disability community. We're driven by the belief that inclusive design and a focus on fundamental skills can break barriers. We believe that providing adaptive solutions helps level the playing field, giving every individual the chance to experience the joy and freedom of riding, regardless of their unique journey.

We're incredibly proud of the role the Adaptive Strider Program and the Strider 20x play in putting our mission into action. These programs demonstrate our unwavering commitment to getting more kids on bikes — and indeed, people on bikes. It's a testament to our passion for every "I did it!" moment, fostering a lifelong love of riding, and inspiring a healthier, more inclusive generation.
